Coiste Taighde
Marino has a long tradition as a teaching college with an emphasis on preparing teachers for the practice of teaching. But research initiatives have also been to the fore in Marino throughout its history. Perhaps the best known product of this research is the Marino Graded Word Reading Scale developed by Bro. James J. O'Sullivan.
The tradition of teaching and research continues in Marino with many lecturers engaged in research related to their study for advanced degrees and others engaged in research projects in their specialised areas.
The senior lecturer with responsibility for research is Dr. Seán Delaney. Matters to do with research policy generally are discussed at Academic Forum meetings. A seed funding initiative has been developed for staff members who wish to prepare a research proposal and apply for external funding. A course in research methods - addressing research design, methods and analysis - was designed for and delivered to Marino staff.
The Coiste Taighde is a committee of Coláiste Mhuire Marino lecturers who oversee specific issues in relation to research in Marino. One key area of the Coiste's work is to support the conduct of research that is ethically sound.
